Special Authority Decision Notifications

PharmaCare’s Special Authority program is going digital. There will soon be changes for physicians to submit and track Special Authority Requests. Requests may be approved more quickly with improved security, more information for patients, and fewer faxes.

The transformation will be phased in. Eventually, Special Authority Requests will be submitted online rather than by fax, which means improved efficiency, simpler processes, and less paper. No special software will be needed.

The first significant change is to notifications that prescribers receive when a request is denied or approved. With the Special Authority team electronically adjudicating requests as of early February, you may notice a change in the appearance of approval or denial notifications about SA coverage decisions, specifically for ARBs, PPIs, as well as bupropion and gliclazide. See example below.

Please visit the Special Authority web page for more information about the digitization project.
