The team at BC Family Doctors embodies the values of our organization. They are a small, dynamic and collaborative group who supports the membership with openness, respect, and a welcoming attitude.

They work to implement the vision and direction set by the Board of Directors, who are all practicing family doctors. Utilizing their collective expertise, knowledge, and skills, they advocate for our members, so that you can provide high quality, patient-centred health care.

Dr. Renee Fernandez

Executive Director

Renee is focused on relationships with physicians, partners and stakeholders, in order to improve the primary care and health care system in BC.

A practicing family doctor in Vancouver, she has worked in leadership roles as well as clinical medicine since she finished residency in 2008. She is passionate about promoting diversity of thinking and courageous leadership, as a means to good governance. She believes in the power of relationships and community to achieve meaningful change.

Meg McCaslin

Program and Communications Coordinator

Meg is the person to reach out to for questions on membership, website access, Board Member resources, event management, and BC Family Doctors Communications.

A professional with a background in communication, media, corporate training, marketing and administration, Meg has worked will all types of organizations from small startups, to radio, to global giant IBM. She believes kindness is powerful.

Penelope Hutchison

Director of Strategy & Operations

Penelope’s focus is enhancing organizational excellence and creating a supportive system of care for family physicians and patients.

With more than 20 years of expertise, she has held various senior leadership roles within the BC health system, along with running her own consulting firm. She comes to with a Masters in Health Administration and a Bachelor of Journalism. As a social justice champion, she believes everyone deserves equitable access to high quality, patient-centred healthcare.
