Starting September 1, 2026, fee-for-service billing for immunizations and injections will be much simpler.

BC Family Doctors has consolidated the existing fees into four billing options. The goal is to reduce billing complexity and reduce administrative burden.

Stand-alone fees (billable when only an injection is provided):

  • 10052 – Adult immunization

Add-on immunization fees (billable in addition to a visit):

  • 10040 – Adult Respiratory Immunization
  • 10053 – Pediatric immunization

Physicians and MOAs are encouraged to review the new fees and update billing workflows.

Most existing immunization or injection fee codes are being deleted, effective August 31, 2026. After this date, the below fees will not be paid:

  • 00010 Intramuscular injections
  • 00034 Subcutaneous injections
  • 10041 Respiratory immunization for patients 19 years of age or older (without a visit)

The complete billing rules for the new and updated fees can be found in the Simplified Fee Guide (10040, 10051, 10052, 10053).

Injection (10051)

Use 10051 to bill for an intramuscular or subcutaneous injection that is not an immunization, for a patient of any age. This fee replaces the use of 00010 and 00034 for injections.

It is:

  • payable at 100% per injection
  • payable for up to three injections per patient, per physician, on the same day
  • payable in addition to immunization fees (10052, 10053) when applicable.

If the injection is given as part of an in-person visit, do not bill 10051 as well as the visit. The injection is included in the visit fee.

Adult immunization (10040 and 10052)

1. Use 10040 when billing for influenza, pneumococcal, pertussis, RSV, and COVID-19 (using ICD-9 code C19) for a patient age 19 or older.

It is:

  • payable at 100% per vaccine administered in addition to an in-person service/visit in a clinic or patient’s home
  • payable for up to four vaccines per patient, per physician, on the same day
  • payable in addition to injection code 10051 when applicable.

RSV is a new addition to 10040. When billing 10040 for an RSV immunization, physicians must use ICD-9 diagnostic code 33C on the 10040 claim.

2. Use 10052 to bill for an immunization given by any route for a patient age 19 or older. This fee replaces the use of 00010 and 00034 for adult immunizations.

It is:

  • payable at 100% per vaccine administered
  • payable for up to six vaccines per patient, per physician, on the same day
  • payable in addition to injection code 10051 when applicable.

If the immunization is given as part of an in-person visit, do not bill 10052 as well. The injection is included in the visit fee. (This is different than the billing rules for 10040).

Pediatric Immunization (10053)

Use 10053 for immunizations for patients under age 19. This fee replaces the 21 individual pediatric immunization fee codes

It is:

  • payable at 100% per vaccine administered in addition to a visit
  • payable for up to six vaccines per patient, per physician, on the same day
  • payable in addition to injection code 10051 when applicable.

The daily maximum is increasing from four to six pediatric immunizations, in accordance with BCCDC guidance.

1. Use the fee that applies on the date the service was provided.

For immunizations and injections provided on or before August 31, 2026, use the previous (existing) fees — even if you submit the billing claim September 1 or later.

2. Combination vaccines are billed once.

For a combination vaccine that contains multiple vaccine components (e.g. MMRV ), bill one immunization fee only.

3. Adult RSV immunization requires ICD-9 code 33C.

When billing 10040 for an RSV immunization, include 33C on the claim.

4. You can provide additional vaccines if medical required.

If more than the maximum number of injections or immunizations are medically required on the same day, submit a claim note to request consideration.

5. Travel, employment and emigration vaccines are not payable.

As with the current immunization fees, travel, employment or emigration immunizations are not payable. These are considered an uninsured service and should be billed to the patient or appropriate third-party.

Review these changes with anyone who submits claims on your behalf, and update any billing favourites, templates or EMR workflows that use the old fee codes.

For services provided on or after September 1, 2026, ensure that you use the new and updated fees. Immunizations and injections billed under deleted immunization or injection fees  will not be paid.
