This past weekend we held the final board meeting for my term as President of BC Family Doctors. A few of highlights from that meeting include reviewing and approving our audited Financial Statements, examning current and potential future BC Family Doctors Governance, and next steps for fee-for-service and LFP if the new PMA is ratified.

It has been an honour to serve in this role and support our members over the past year. While systems change can feel slow, I’m proud of the momentum we’ve built and the strong path ahead.

My presidency focused on three priorities: strengthening relationships with community family doctors through Divisions engagement, amplifying the voices of rural and remote physicians, and building stronger, trust-based collaboration across family medicine leadership organizations.

We’ve made progress. And, while challenges remain, it’s important to recognize how far we’ve come and the direction we’re heading. Just as a book is written one page at a time, so is the incremental transformation of our healthcare system. This reform doesn’t happen in a vacuum. It is cultivated through relationships, strategic focus, operational endurance, efficiency and consistency.

At BC Family Doctors we are striving to author a better and brighter future for family medicine in our province. Perhaps, if you’re reading this, you could be a part of the story moving forward. We can always use more passion, tenacity, and expertise.

Sincerely,

Dr. Darren Joneson

BC Family Doctors President
