At the 2025 Union of B.C. Municipalities convention, BC Family Doctors partnered with Port Moody to successfully advance a resolution calling on the province to work with municipalities and developers to include primary care and team-based medical clinics in new developments. Since then, momentum has continued to build in Port Moody.

On July 21, council passed a new motion, introduced by Coun. Amy Lubik and Mayor Meghan Lahti, directing staff to explore ways to support the inclusion of doctors’ offices and medical clinics in future developments. Options under consideration include floor space ratio (FSR) exclusions, Amenity Cost Charge (ACC) exemptions or reductions, and potentially making clinic space eligible under the city’s density bonusing program.

This new motion offers hope for a stronger future for primary care and the potential to attract more family doctors to the region. Staff now have up to 12 months to report back on the feasibility of the motion before council considers next steps.
