The GSPC is expanding fees to support you in providing care to patients with mental health needs and patients at risk of substance use disorder. There are also two new fees to support patient intake and brief clinical conferences.
The fee code changes are effective for services provided on or after October 1, 2021. The fees are now active in the Teleplan claim system (Oct 5), so family physicians can submit their claims.
Mental health management fees: 14044-14048
Mental health management fees (14044, 14045, 14046, 14047, 14048) are now easier to use when providing mental health care to patients. The mental health planning fee (14043) is no longer required prior to billing the mental health management fees.
MSP provides payment for up to four individual counselling visits per patient per year (any combination of in-person or telehealth counselling). Once a patient reaches this limit, the FPSC provides four additional individual counselling visits per patient through the mental health management fees. With this change, your patients can continue to receive up to eight counselling visits per year. You determine the timing and need for a mental health planning visit (14043).
These fees are payable to the family doctor who is most responsible for the patient’s longitudinal primary care and who has submitted and met the requirements for the community longitudinal family physician (CLFP) portal code (14070) or the locum CLFP portal code (14071) in the calendar year.
Personal health risk assessment fee: 14066
The personal health risk assessment fee (14066) has been changed to support you in providing clinical prevention care to patients at risk for substance use disorder. The other designated patient populations are patients with tobacco use/smoking, unhealthy eating, physical inactivity, and medical obesity.
In order to bill this fee, you are expected to develop a plan that recommends targeted clinical preventative actions of proven benefit, consistent with the Lifetime Prevention Schedule and relevant BC Guidelines.
This fee is payable to the family doctor who is most responsible for the majority of the patient’s longitudinal primary care and who has submitted and met the requirements for community longitudinal family physician (CLFP) portal code (14070) or the locum CLFP portal code (14071) in the calendar year.
