Effective April 1, 2023, the rates for uninsured services are being increased to reflect a 5.5% increase. These rates, as set by Doctors of BC, are only a guideline, however. You may set your own rates to reflect the time, intensity and complexity of the service you are providing.
We know many physicians are hesitant to bill patients for uninsured services. To support you in billing for uninsured services, we have created a standardized Uninsured Services Invoice that we update annually with the rates set by Doctors of BC. New for this year, we have two versions of the Uninsured Services invoice, one for physicians billing under fee-for-service and another for physicians billing under the LFP Payment Model. Each invoice is specific to the services not covered by the particular payment model.
All third-party forms and requests are excluded from both fee-for-service and the LFP Payment Model. As they are uninsured services, you can bill the patient or the third party for these services regardless of your payment model, as appropriate. These include insurance forms, CRA Disability Tax Credit and application forms, third-party drug benefit forms, occupational fitness assessment forms and medical-legal services.
Please check out our full Uninsured Service Package to access the Uninsured Service invoices as well as an Uninsured Services Poster for your clinic.
Our Simplified Fee Guide has also been updated with non-MSP rates for those times when you provide care to patients not covered by MSP. In addition, the Uninsured and Forms section of the Simplified Fee Guide includes a comprehensive listing of the uninsured services fee codes as does the Uninsured Services section of the Simplified LFP Guide.
We have also updated our Billing Question Library. For your interest, we have provided a few sample uninsured services billing questions below.
