Description

In addition to recruiting a full-time physicians, we have LOCUM NEED starting April 1, 2024 onwards. Dawson City is a beautiful town in the Yukon that is dependent on locums. Please come help our little rural community to ensure there is adequate physician coverage and no disruptions to emergency services. Ideally, we would have locums come up for at least 3-4 weeks at a time. Please reach out to discuss potential dates and check out our clinic website, DawsonClinic.com, for more information about working here. We are also recruiting for two full time permanent physicians.

Dawson is a fun, healthy town of about 2,300 (much higher in the summer with tourists and gold miners) with amazingly active outdoors and arts scenes and a vibrant First Nation. We are located in West-central Yukon near the Dempster highway and beautiful Tombstone park, 600km North of Whitehorse.

There is a six inpatient bed hospital with 24h ER, and basic lab/X-Ray services. Docs do 24h call for ER; the on-call doctor sees ER and clinic walk-ins, but can be at home outside of clinic hours. Call is on average 1-in-4.5. Nearest OR and basic specialty services are in Whitehorse, 6h away.

Weekdays 9-5 in clinic and/or ER are remunerated by contract at a generous daily rate while after-hours and weekend billing is a mixture of hourly billing and fee-for-service, plus an ER call stipend, all paid at 100%. Housing, travel/travel stipend and licensing costs are covered. This may be the best compensated locum you ever do! Long term positions require a minimum 38-week commitment to the community annually, and come with very competitive retention bonuses.

To work here, you should be comfortable working in a rural, remote ER and have had ACLS and ATLS (or equivalent) training. PALS, though not necessary, would also be an asset. We support one another with difficult cases, complex procedures, etc. Physicians also have the option to provide occasional support to EMS for helicopter extractions at remote sites. Licensure with the Yukon Medical Council and Hospital Privileges are required.

A taste for wild mushroom and berry foraging, live music, mountain biking, hunting, canoeing, cross-country skiing or hiking are not required but will likely develop when you’re here!

For more information about living and working here, have a look at our clinic website, DawsonClinic.com. If you’d like to discuss this opportunity, please contact our Clinical Advisor at dawsonlocums@gmail.com.
