How Do You Measure a Year?

One year ago, we launched the LFP Payment Model in British Columbia.

One year ago, we shifted BC Family Doctors’ work to support the thousands of family doctors who chose en masse to move to a new compensation choice.

One year ago, we allowed ourselves to hope.

You told us “Everyone deserves a family doctor.” Today, we are a little bit closer to that reality.

Thanks to your advocacy, feedback, and trust, we have accomplished much in the last year. Thanks to our partnerships with Doctors of BC and government, we have come farther than we believed possible in such a short time. And we have learned so much.

You told us this payment model has been a game-changer for you. This investment in family medicine is keeping existing longitudinal doctors in practice and encouraging other family doctors to come back to longitudinal care. For the first time in a generation, we have hundreds of new longitudinal family doctors in BC.

We have come so far in one year. And we know our work has just begun.

We have more to do to improve the LFP Payment Model. We have more to do to improve fee-for-service and alternate payment models. We know we must continue our collective efforts to create a high-performing primary care system in BC.

We have hope for a better tomorrow. Together, we know we can create the healthcare system that physicians and patients need and deserve.
