When the patient does not want to or is unable to take their own HPV vaginal sample, they can see a physician who can:

  • collect a liquid-based cytology sample (same method as previous), or
  • collect a vaginal sample with an HPV vaginal self-screening device

If the patient prefers to have a speculum exam for liquid-based cytology, an in-person visit (0100 series) is billable in addition to the office vaginal speculum exam (14562) and mini tray fee (00044).

If you take the vaginal sample with a HPV self-screening device, this is billable as an in-person visit (0100-series) as it does not require a speculum exam.
