Halloween safety tips from BC Family Doctors

Halloween is an exciting time for kids and families, but it’s important to keep safety in mind as you enjoy the fun. Here are a few simple tips to ensure a safe and happy Halloween:

  1. Costume safety
    • Make sure costumes are visible in the dark by adding reflective tape or wearing glow sticks.
    • Choose costumes that fit properly to avoid trips and falls and ensure that masks don’t obstruct vision.
  2. Trick-or-treating safety
    • Always accompany younger children, and stick to well-lit areas.
    • Remind older kids to stay in groups, use sidewalks and cross streets at corners or crosswalks.
    • Before eating candy, inspect it for any signs of tampering.
    • Avoid homemade treats unless you know the source well.
  3. Fire safety
    • Opt for battery-operated candles in jack-o’-lanterns instead of open flames.
    • Ensure costumes and decorations are fire-resistant.

Stay safe and have a spooky Halloween!
