Today, we celebrate every hard-working family doctor for the exceptional work that you do. We thank you for shouldering the responsibility of caring for British Columbians in these challenging times.
Family doctors in this province are more than 6000 strong. In the past few months, we have seen the power of joining our voices together to speak about the crisis in family medicine and the value of having a family doctor. You are not alone. You are part of a community that is speaking out and working for change.
Know that you are seen, you are heard, and you are valued – by your patients, your colleagues, and your BC Family Doctors organization. The public is now standing shoulder to shoulder with family physicians, calling for a future where every patient has a family doctor, and where family doctors can thrive, not just survive.
Today is a celebration of BC’s family doctors. We are ordinary people who do extraordinary work every day. We don’t say it enough. We don’t celebrate it enough. Today, let’s change that. It’s time we honour our value and our worth as family doctors, the cornerstone of the health care system.
Despite all that ails family medicine in BC, BC Family Doctors has hope for a better tomorrow. And that hope lies in you, our community, speaking uncomfortable truths to those who need to hear it and uniting to save family medicine in BC.
