Congratulations to B.C.’s new leaders

With the election behind us, B.C.’s political leaders now have the critical task of finding solutions to our primary care crisis. We’ve reached out directly to Premier David Eby, Opposition Leader John Rustad and the Green Party MLAs, calling on them to work together across party lines to support the urgent needs of family doctors and their patients. We want to ensure our voices are heard in shaping healthcare policy.

In her letter to each leader, BC Family Doctors President Maryam Zeineddin outlined three key areas where we are calling for immediate action:

1. Reduce healthcare administration
Family doctors are overwhelmed by unnecessary paperwork, taking time away from patients. We’re pushing for an end to sick notes and Special Authority forms, as well as streamlined, funded EMRs to make care more efficient.

2. Invest in team-based care
We need proper funding and resources for team-based care models to allow family practices to deliver better, more holistic care to patients.

3. Address rural healthcare gaps
Our rural communities need targeted funding and adaptable solutions to ensure no British Columbian goes without primary care.

These priorities are essential for sustaining family medicine in B.C., and we need every MLA to support them. We’ll continue advocating for the policies that give family doctors what they need to care for patients across our province.

Read the letters to our leaders and stay tuned for updates as we push forward on these critical issues.
