The Ministry of Health is launching a province-wide Nurse in Practice program. The program is designed to expand team-based primary care by integrating more nurses into primary care clinics.
Under this program, clinics can apply to the Ministry of Health for funding to hire a Registered Nurse or a Licensed Practical Nurse. Nurses hired under the program can provide services such as triage and assessment of patients, health promotion, disease/injury prevention, and care coordination.
To be eligible, clinics must be owned and operated by a family physician or nurse practitioner (or operated by a not-for-profit society). Eligible clinics include:
- Longitudinal primary care clinics
- Focused primary care clinics that serve priority populations (e.g. Indigenous Peoples, maternity care, elderly/frail, sexual health and/or gender affirming care, complex care, and mental health and substance use)
Applications will be assessed quarterly. The first application deadline for the 2024/25 fiscal year is April 1, 2024.
For more information about eligibility, applications and deadlines, visit the Nurse in Practice webpage.
