Shaping Compensation for B.C. Physicians

BC Family Doctors play a crucial role when it comes to physician compensation—an area of expertise that extends beyond advocacy.
As highlighted in a recent article in BCMJ, co-authored by our Board Chair, Dr. Tahmeena Ali and Dr. Rob Carruthers, President, Consultant Specialists of BC, sections and societies have a critical role in identifying where new or updated fee codes are needed, developing proposals, and working with the Ministry of Health to advance changes. This work is undertaken to support both quality patient care and fair physician compensation. This labour-intensive work is essential, as fee codes must be updated periodically to reflect shifts in practice patterns and modernize language.
BC Family Doctors is well positioned to lead this work, with dedicated staff and contracted physicians with the expertise needed to ensure this important work is completed.
