Imagine a healthcare system where doctors have more time to focus on you. That’s exactly what the LFP Payment Model is making possible in B.C. This model allows doctors to spend more time with patients and allows preventive health care, leading to better patient experiences and improved health outcomes.

Dr. Lilian Shyman, a family doctor in West Kelowna, has seen the difference firsthand. Since switching to LFP, she’s been able to do more preventive and proactive care, like obesity screening and medication reviews—things she rarely had time for under the old fee-for-service system.

Talking about weight and medications isn’t easy, and in the past, doctors often didn’t have time to do it properly. But now, Dr. Shyman can have these important conversations as part of regular check-ups, helping her patients take charge of their health.

The LFP model also makes it easier to de-prescribe—cutting back on medications patients don’t actually need. Dr. Shyman has seen too many hospital patients still taking medications prescribed decades ago that no longer serve them. With more time to review prescriptions, she can make sure her patients are only taking what’s necessary.

For doctors like Dr. Shyman, the LFP Payment Model has been a game-changer. It allows them to practice medicine the way they always wanted—focusing on prevention, long-term health, and overall well-being.
