A Message from the President

Working together through change
As the new provincial government begins its transition, BC Family Doctors is ready to build a constructive working relationship focused on improving primary care for all British Columbians. As a non-partisan organization, we look forward to working with elected officials across the new government to advance the priorities of patients and family doctors.
Bringing your priorities forward
In the coming weeks, we will reach out to the new government to advocate for our members’ priorities:
- Ensuring every British Columbian has access to a family doctor through fair and equitable compensation models
- Reducing administrative burdens and digital fragmentation
- Advancing team-based care
- Improving support for rural physicians and rural health care
- Respecting physicians’ professional autonomy
Board meeting: governance and member engagement
At our October 24 in-person meeting, the Board discussed next steps to strengthen our governance. We agreed to explore a smaller, more governance-focused Board alongside more structured opportunities for members to get involved. We also discussed the member survey and how your input will help ensure our priorities and advocacy reflect the needs of family doctors across British Columbia.
Advancing fair payment
The Board reviewed the LFP and fee-for-service payment models and received an update from the Economics Committee on ongoing work related to PMA allocations. We remain focused on advancing payment approaches that recognize the full scope and value of family medicine.
Change can bring uncertainty, and I know many of you have questions about what lies ahead. We will continue to bring your priorities forward and keep you informed as this work progresses. Thank you for the care you provide every day and for all you contribute to your patients, your communities and our profession.
Sincerely,
Birinder Narang
President
