2025 PMA makes major investment in rural healthcare
June 8, 2026

The newly ratified 2025 Physician Main Agreement (PMA) marks the largest investment in rural physicians and rural healthcare in the last 30 years in BC.
Our Fair Care Everywhere campaign championed the need to address the disparities in rural healthcare. A key call to action was for increased investments in rural physicians and rural communities. We’re pleased the 2025 PMA delivers:
- Support for physicians who are new to rural communities
- Support for physicians to provide longitudinal and hybrid care in rural communities
- Increased funding for the Joint Standing Committee on Rural Issues (JSC)
- More stable and extensive funding for:
- Real Time Virtual Support (RTVS) program,
- Maternity and Babies Advice Line (MaBAL), and
- Child Health Advice in Real-time Electronically (CHARLiE) program.
- Enhancements to the rural locum program
- Funding for a rural business modernization project
We celebrate this major milestone in our Fair Care Everywhere campaign. The needs of rural communities are being heard. Let’s continue to champion rural voices to ensure everyone has access to Fair Care Everywhere.
