The Campbell River Maternity Clinic is a group of 5 family physicians who provide maternity care in group setting.
The clinic runs 4 half-days per week to see antepartum patients and postpartum dyads (we follow patients for 6 weeks post delivery). In addition, one of our physicians runs a clinic in Port Hardy monthly to see our shared care patients.
Our clinic is run in the outpatient clinical wing of our hospital. We have a fantastic MOA who manages all the clinic organization and checks in patents, weights, ect.
The call is shared evening amongst the group. Given it is a group of 5, each physician has a regular weekday call shift (24h starting at 0700). We then split the weekends 1:5.
Clinic work is funded in two possible ways. Our physicians who carry a panel of general practice patients in the community are able to bill LFP for clinic work. Our locum physicians who aren't carrying a panel in the community are able to bill sessionally for clinic work. There are no overhead fees for this work.
Intrapartum work is also funded in two possible ways. LFP community physicians can bill LFP for inpatient work. Locums (who aren't covering for a LFP-community doc specifically) can bill FFS for inpatient work.
Call is paid for by MOCAP.
The group is very cohesive and collaborative. We have monthly meetings to review complex patients and ensure we are providing best care. We pride ourselves on providing high level of care to our patients.
We work closely with our obstetrical colleagues and are supported by three lovely OB-GYNEs who provide consultative support when needed.
One of our physicians is going on maternity leave herself as of January 1st, 2024. She is hoping to take a year off. We are looking to cover her leave so that the call/clinic coverage doesn't become too onerous for the remaining group.
Further, we are always open to recruiting long-term members to our group if the fit is right.
