Join Our Board as a Family Practice Resident Year 1

BC Family Doctors is the political and economic voice of family doctors across British Columbia. We are looking for one first-year resident to join the Board for a two-year term. In this role, you will:
- Speak up for the needs of family medicine and resident physicians.
- Develop physician leadership skills and learn about how patient care connects to compensation.
- Understand how BC’s primary care system makes decisions — and where family doctors can have a voice.
- Receive honoraria and reimbursement of travel expenses.
- Serve as a voting delegate to the Doctors of BC Representative Assembly.
The deadline for applications is August 3rd. For questions about the organization, the role, the application process, or to request a PDF application form, please email hello@bcfamilydocs.ca.
Hear from our current and former Residents as they share their journey from their first year on the Board to taking on the Year 2 role.
Jose Alvero – Family Practice Resident Year 2
Being the R1 Representative on the BC Family Doctors Board has been one of the highlights of my residency so far and genuinely fun. The board culture is open, welcoming, and refreshingly down-to-earth. We work directly with stakeholders and weigh in on decisions that affect family doctors right now, from payment models and how physicians are compensated, to the broader future of family medicine in BC. Your voice as a resident actually matters in those conversations.
If you’re a first-year resident curious about where family medicine in BC is headed and want a real hand in shaping it, I’d encourage you to apply. It’s been worth every second!
Amir Pourghadiri – Family Practice Resident Year 2
I joined the BC Family Doctors Board because I wanted to work alongside a wonderful group of people who are kind, collaborative, and deeply committed to a shared vision: advocating for family physicians, supporting comprehensive care, and improving health care for patients across British Columbia. It has been incredibly rewarding to contribute to this work and to be part of conversations that help strengthen family medicine across the province.
Nicole Minielly – Family Practice Resident (Former)
Serving as a resident representative on the BC Family Doctors Board has been an incredibly rewarding opportunity to advocate for meaningful change in family medicine while helping shape the future of primary care in British Columbia. Through this role, I’ve been able to bring forward the resident perspective while connecting with passionate physician leaders, mentors, and advocates from across the province. It has been a valuable experience in leadership, collaboration, and advocacy, and I would strongly encourage any resident interested in improving the future of family medicine to get involved.
