President’s Letter

On October 4th our new Board of Directors gathered, in-person and virtually, for our first meeting as a group. We had an ambitious agenda- to socialize our 2025-2028 Strategic Plan and review our operational plan on how we would reach these goals. In ‘pods’ we worked through important ideas like digital health, team-base care, equity and access, and role clarity. In these self-selected sessions we were able to share both practical and visionary thoughts around how to tackle these challenges.

After lunch and a stunning group photo, there was an opportunity for new and seasoned board members alike to learn about the complexities and processes for change within the varying payment models used by family physicians. We then put knowledge into practice, approving fee for service increases for supportive care hospital visits and vasectomies as recommended by our Economics Committee. In learning about the many layers of work that it takes to bring change to billing, we all gained deeper insight into this complex but important process.

Our day of thoughtful work was capped off with an engaging social event, the BC Lions game, where we shared food and friendship and watch the team clinch a playoff spot. In many ways, like the Lions, our work must be meticulously planned, adaptable, and well-practiced. We must be able to recognize and utilize opportunities that arise to further the goals of family doctors in BC.

We were also joined by colleagues from Doctors of BC, Consultant Specialists of BC and other physician leaders. I would like to extend my thanks to the leadership and staff at BC Family Doctors for both the Board Meeting and the social celebration. I believe we made significant progress and this day set us on a course for a fruitful close to 2025, and I for one am very much looking forward to continuing our work into 2026 with ambition, purpose and integrity.

Sincerely,

Dr. Darren Joneson
