2024 Wrapped: gratitude, growth and looking ahead

Dear Members,

I hope you find time to rest, reflect, and celebrate the incredible work you do, with gratitude from your patients, colleagues, families, and community.

Balancing clinical practice, raising two teenage daughters, and contributing to this remarkably nimble organization—the economic and political voice for all family doctors—has been no small feat. BC Family Doctors is a powerhouse advocate for family doctors in B.C., with our staff and board raising their voices louder than ever, both within and outside the profession.

I’ve spent nearly twenty years in family medicine and have had my share of doubts about its future. This year, however, it’s been an honor to stand tall as specialists in primary care within an organization that cherishes each family doctor’s role across various medical fields.

As 2024 comes to a close, I extend my heartfelt gratitude to each of you and encourage you to stay engaged—our collective voice is what drives meaningful change.

At our recent board meeting, we approved our 2025 budget to prepare for the year ahead. We’re excited to launch our rural campaign, highlighting the challenges faced by rural family doctors. Building on the transformative impact of the Longitudinal Family Physician (LFP) Payment Model, we will also begin our strategic planning process to set the direction for our organization and better meet your needs.

Please also consider applying for one of our current vacant roles: FPSC representative, two board district delegates (Burnaby and Skeena), and two Economics Committee members.

BC Family Doctors is here for one reason: to ensure every family doctor in B.C. has a place to belong, to be heard and to thrive. Please take good care of yourselves and hope you get some rest and family time. I’m certainly taking my own advice (at least will try 🙏🏻) .
