Equitable access to primary care in rural communities

National Rural Health Week is an annual celebration recognizing the dedication and impact of healthcare providers in rural, remote and First Nations communities across Canada. This year, National Rural Health Week will take place between October 20-24, 2025. The aim of the week is to highlight the importance of rural health care and the ability for family doctors to provide longitudinal and integrated care to their patients.

During this period, we reaffirm our commitment to achieving health equity for rural communities through our ongoing Fair Care Everywhere advocacy campaign.

Rural British Columbians often face overwhelming challenges just to access comprehensive and consistent primary healthcare. Our campaign highlights the urgent need for targeted solutions that address the unique challenges and inequities faced by both rural patients and the dedicated family doctors serving these communities.

Through Fair Care Everywhere, we advocate for sustainable practice models, improved recruitment and retention strategies and infrastructure investments that ensure all British Columbians receive the quality care they deserve, regardless of their postal code.

Every community needs and deserves a family doctor. Join us in calling for equitable healthcare access across our province.
