When the LFP Payment Model launched in February 2023, it focused on clinic and home-based care. As a result, only care provided via the LFP Clinic, in a Maternity Clinic or in the patient’s home is included. Care provided in a facility is not payable under the LFP Payment Model at this time.

On June 24 2024, four areas of facility-based care will be incorporated into the LFP Payment Model: pregnancy & newborn care in hospital, inpatient care, long-term care, and palliative care facilities.

  • This new payment schedule will be effective June 24, 2024.

Until facility-based care under the LFP Payment Model launches on June 24, you can bill for indirect patient care (e.g. lab review, conferencing) and virtual care services for patients in facilities. Successive virtual care services to patients located in a facility are not payable (e.g. a virtual care clinic for patients in LTC).

Please see Appendix A of the LFP Payment Schedule for the definition of Facility.
